I’ve been interested in Japanese for years now, but I haven’t quite found the application for using and learning it in daily life yet, so I’m still pretty much a beginner.
大家さんに日本語で通じれるのはきっかけだけど、本来私の動機は英語の字幕を付けないでアニメを見たくて英語に翻訳していないゲームを遊びたかった。最初に比べると今の私はできたいことは増やしたー例えば、古典の文学書などを読む。多分できたいことをよく考えればうまく行けるかもしれない。
と言っても、今はなければいい。いつか動機、きっかけ、理由、モチベーションが出る。そのチャンスに飛びついたら十分。一応お互い様と思う、だって私も日本語に興味は長年に持ったけど、ただ去年から始まった。その時までご心配なく。

Although speaking to my landlord was the opportunity for me to learn japanese, my original motivation was to be able to watch anime without english subtitles and play a few games which weren't translated to english. Compared to before, though, the things that I'd like to eventually be able to do has increased - for example, reading classical literature. Maybe focusing on what you want to be able to do might motivate you.
That being said, it's fine if it's not now. Someday a motive, opportunity, reason or motivation will appear, and grabbing that opportunity is sometimes all that's needed. It was the same way for me in a sense too - although I was interested in japanese for years (since 2018 or so), it wasn't until last year that I actually started. Until such a time appears for you, there's no need to worry [about not starting earlier.]

In short: I've been learning japanese since last year. This newspost is a sort of outcome of that.
I feel it really starts picking up when you're able to watch content with both audio and subtitles as it engages both the hearing and text as mutual reinforcement. Pretty sweet update.

Hey, good to know you're still around! How's things been?
Unfortunately I'm rather poor at translating from japanese to english; although I can understand what's happening, any translations I do end up being rather stiff (there's a joke here to be made but I can't put my finger on it)
That being said I do have to get around to reading the doujinshi I bought... but boy is reading on paper so much more troublesome than on a tablet.

Thanks! Learning japanese was one of my dreams, but never in a million years would I have imagined I'd actually be able to achieve it (to an extent at least). I guess nobody can really predict how life's gonna turn out.
