congrats

Thanks!

YES YOU ARE! :D

I celebrated with a pizza :3

Alright so it wasn't only for the UOTD but I count it nonetheless lol

Finally!

Was hella surprised to see it. Younger me would have been psyched.

Well deserved congratulations you worked so hard and it's finally paying off!

Heh, I kinda doubt that lol. I've been slacking off these past few years, gotta work on ramping back up.

good rng 4 u
still dubious as to my algo situ, as i am an old fart
also damn glad yer still walkin and talkin muh bro

Great to see you around too my dude. I thought I'd never get it either but was proven wrong, there's hope for us old farts yet.

I was going to PM you about this, but then I remembered your inbox is full. I'm coming in *once again* to say thanks for teaching me Flash stuff these past few months.

Check this out:
https://www.newgrounds.com/projects/games/4550099/preview/filetype/0/emulate/flash

I didn't make the deadline for the Flash Forward Jam for the 3rd year in a row, but it's also the farthest I've ever gotten to finishing a project. It has like three levels and a shitload of missing polish, but I learned a lot.

Also, congrats on getting User of the Day a month ago, lol.

Thanks! And yeah, in the end learning matters far more, since it'll help you in future projects. Congrats! There's always next year.

Nice. I've never been user of the day. Well, one of my alts has been, but that alt is no longer active anyway (and I don't think I even remember the password).

Thanks! I trust you'll get it eventually. Although it does seem that the system is biased against older users.

@Gimmick Well, I've been a user since 2001, so there's that. XD

Yeah. Mathematically the odds of someone getting UOTD should increase over time (or, put another way, the likelihood that someone hasn't got UOTD at all decreases every day) and yet it seems that newer users get it more often. I don't know why.

Hello gimmick. I am not xenomit

That was a lie, this is totally xenomit

big if true, what up my man

@Gimmick I'm malding that I came back to newgrounds to actually get involved in the BBS for the first time since 2015 only to find out that general is permanently closed

hey look on the bright side, at least you left your mark on there while it was still open lol

But yeah it sucks that general closed, I didn't use it much the past few years but it feels like a part of the site's identity has been lost. The supporter forum is there, but it's not quite the same.

What's life been like in the meantime though? 8 years and a pandemic is a helluva lot of life that's happened, how's things been holding up for you?

@Gimmick I worked at a couple different manufacturing plants (paper, two different chemical mills), worked as a facebook fact checker for like a year and a half, now I'm currently unemployed trying really hard to get a job at the post office, it pays like 25 bucks an hour the work schedule is amazing and you get the best insurance on the planet.

I got two associates degrees for manufacturing, then found out that I hate manufacturing jobs after doing them for several years, I feel like if I can get a job at the postal service I'll be set for life career wise.

I got a cat, my pet gecko died, I became a dungeons and dragons fanatic and started writing my own campaign, I live with a roommate - a guy I met working at walmart around 2016 before I quit that to start my manufacturing arc, I lift weights as a hobby and really like doing interval jogging around town, I got into a minor car accident that required me to replace the bumper and a fender, my dad crashed his bulldozer down a 15 foot drop and hit his head so hard it detached one of his retinas, I've had a couple friends with benefits over the years, I got my ultimate gamer setup complete while making chemical mill money with a giant L desk 3 monitors and a full size tower that cost me around 3.5k to build NOT including the monitors and peripherals, I transitioned entirely to discord for all my online socializing, I've picked up and put down video editing as a hobby more times than I can count, and I think that's about everything I can think of worth mentioning. I also extremely regret deleting my original account, I actually hate myself so much for doing it.

What about you, wanna dump a bunch of catchup factoids?

All the best with getting the post office gig, that does sound sweet indeed especially if its a career in and of itself. And oh man does your life sound like quite the adventure, that's a LOT of things to happen in 7ish years!

Not much has happened on my end since 2015. I got into the university entrance exam circuit around then, and then got into a semi-terrible university after flunking all the others' tests, and graduated with not much more than a desire to leave the country. Learnt french (up to A2, a high beginner) and then moved to canada almost immediately after that, since I got lucky enough to be accepted for a thesis master's programme, and then spent the next 3.5 years to finish it (graduating juuuuust half a year before the maximum time limit for my degree, when people normally completed it in 1 year less time) -- that is, just this May.

I've been lucky enough to get hired by the company I was interning for during that period, and since then I'm just sorta coasting along. I had quite a few side projects on the side during my master's that I more or less dropped entirely because I found myself slipping all the time with them. I still like programming but I don't make games or any of that stuff anymore, doing it for work saps the energy out of me to do that as a hobby these days.

After graduation, I had no idea how to spend the time, gaming no longer appealed to me like it did 10 years ago, and I mostly spent the day watching jerma vods after work, and browsing reddit. It was a fun way to spend the time and all but I had to stop after I realized I was just stagnating. I'm not one to give in to hustle culture and all that, but even I had my limits at some point. I'd tried picking up french again but I lost interest in that as well since I used it like all of 2 or 3 times since being in canada (western canada doesn't use/like it much, go figure...). Ultimately, I decided to pick up japanese in June since I actually knew some people whom I could speak it with, and because that would be the perfect excuse to get back to watching anime (which I'd dropped entirely). No idea where I'll go with it come next year but we'll see.

I've had the occasional urge to delete all my old cringy posts but I've been lucky enough to not have the delete button be available whenever that happened. I'm definitely no longer the statwhore I was in the past, but general closing aside, I don't see much reason to post in any forums other than the game dev and programming boards. I still browse this site from time to time, but there wasn't really much else left in it for me apart from NG chat, and with my self-studies going on, there's not much time left in the day for much else than checking if anything's new on this site. I guess the site not being as active as it used to be (which it already kinda wasn't) is both a good and bad thing.

Oh and FnF happened. I guess that was a rather surprising few weeks a couple...years ago. Holy shit it's been a while. My sense of time has been thrown off in all directions ever since covid happened.
