Not bad

It's a nice platformer you made with Games Factory 2, and although the game was riddled with bugs you still did a good enough job to compensate a little. I'll elaborate later.

The graphics / animation: They were good, everything being good enough except for the static sprites such as the trees. I liked Shrimpy and the design of the platforms, along with the swimming fish: their animations were smooth. The explosions were, I presume, life? I wouldn't see why that had to be used, perhaps because of it being the default sprite set in TGF2?

The sound: At the beginning it's a fast-paced sound and then when you enter the game it's a slow, calming sound. I don't quite see the point of that, although the songs themselves are nice. Either way, for an underwater theme the song is chosen well.

The gameplay: It's a quite decent platformer you've made, along with relaxing music as a casual, relax-y type of game, but sadly it's riddled with bugs, like I said before. Rather than having to go to the trouble of jumping up all those platforms, just fall down a place (bug?) and you'll end up near what I think is the end screen. Just collect the explosions and then jump. Problem is, if you jump and hit the dissolving brick, you instantly lose a life and reset the screen there. Another problem is the sticking to the ceiling. Normally I would press C to push the character down, but now when I got to the near end, I got stuck between two walls and a dissolving brick. I nudged C again and again, but it only pushed it down a little bit. By the time I freed him, he went through the floor and fell! But he didn't reset, he just went off the screen, no lives were lost, almost as if you were just navigating the screen camera!

Apart from all the bugs, it's quite nice. I'll go check out Shrimp's adventure V2 now.

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Nice graphics
2) Smooth animation
3) Good choice of music

~~ Bad points ~~
1) Riddled with bugs

Thanks for the review in advance.
Anyways, I hate how there are so many glitches too, but the built in platform movement is horribly glitched and I can't make "fast-loops" with the limitations of the NG's edition, but I've gotta make due with what I have for now.
Thanks again.

Um.

I didn't particularly like this game, mostly due to the bad graphics and the in-originality of this. You could've just as well used an awesome face sprite.

The graphics / animation: Meh. A poor replica of an awesome face sprite. Not only is the meme poor, the drawing is even worse than the original awesome face. The coin, door and wall (including spikes) are just basic shapes, with the only exception being the spikes -- brush strokes that are more smooth than sharp, per se. The maze is even worse -- a large rectangle with erased out parts, which looks unprofessional.

The sound: Downright annoying. When I started the game I was presented with a loud background music, and when I clicked on play I was directed to the level screen, where there was no Mute BGM button. I had to go back to the menu and disable the sound. That doesn't help the fact you can't autosave, either.

The gameplay: It's rather a collection of minigames involving the awesome face named "Pilo", than an actual game, per se, mostly due to the fact that there are levels such as coin collection in one level, and suddenly some levels ahead you jump into mazes and forget about coins altogether. I couldn't finish the game, and see the "sound" section where I said I had to go to the main menu to disable it -- I'm lucky I did that on the first level. If I had done it any later, then I'd have given one star less. Put at least a *little* effort into organizing the level system into chunks, where you could save every time you got into a snag for later. That or add a mute button; I hated the fact you put the "5 commandments of Pilo" in the tips section...that's just downright bad, but that's only my opinion. The only good thing that came out of that commandments was that it was challenging. Also, I'm writing the review while playing the game -- I'm still seeing the death counter increase while I'm writing this. Add a pause menu, for god's sake!

That's all for now. I hope to see a better version where the graphics and other things are better, because even though this idea's not original, it at least has some potential in it.

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Challenging

~~ Bad points ~~
1) Bad sound
2) Poor graphics
3) Unoriginal
4) No pause menu
5) No save system
6) No ingame mute button

Thanks for all the harsh criticism :)
(I'm serious)
I have nothing to say for myself except - i will try harder next time :)

Took all what you said in consideration.
This game was mainly to "test" my as2 mad skills.
(i'm not serious)

I will, however, make a more serious game then that in the near-ish future, since i got my mind on other projects right now :d
But seriously, thanks for taking your time and reviewing this game.

Nice

I liked this game because I could just take any gun and shoot it at enemies, as well as due to the art and the storyline behind it. I'll elaborate on this later.

The graphics: The graphics are nice, and I especially liked the characters; they are Madness sprites, sure, but they're also well redrawn. Also, the background was drawn to particularly suit the type of situation Hank and Sanford are in.

The animation: Everything is animated nicely, with the shooting and the explosions particularly smooth; however, some parts were slow, maybe because of CPU usage on my end? Dunno.

The gameplay: It's just Run 'n Gun, like the genre says, but then again it could've been improved. For example, both Hank and Sanford only shoot in two directions: left and right, whereas the other characters, the "enemies" can shoot at any angle! That's an unfair (?) disadvantage! Then again, it could've been intentional.

The sound: The sound was appropriately chosen for the situation; they also sounded nice. Nice choice of sound; the sound effects were also appropriately chosen, giving an atmosphere to the whole situation.

I noticed a glitch, though: if you press A on Hank and press 2 while holding A, Hank will punch when you release A, even though you're controlling Sanford.
Overall, though, the game was good. Add medals and you'd have an even better game.

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Nice choice of sound, sound effects
2) Smooth animation
3) Tough difficulty (?)
4) Good gameplay

~~ Bad points ~~
1) Glitch

Thank you alot for this review, you've put alot of effort into it I can see. That point you made about only being able to shoot left/right is wrong, you can, it says in the Auothor Comments that up/down aims (aims up and down). But anyway, thanks alot for the review. Peace.

Not bad

This is among one of the first madness games I've played, but I guess I've been under a rock all this time to not have played more madness games; however, this is a good game. I'll elaborate later.

The graphics: I honestly couldn't make out the man was a madness character. Seriously. The zombies and the scenery, as well as the character, were well drawn, very well drawn, however I didn't like the style of the buttons.

The gameplay: Not bad! Even though it's just a shooting game, I presume this is what to do in the upcoming "zombie apocalypse"? Hah. Anyways, I couldn't finish the game on easy, let alone medium or hard! The fat chef kept whacking me while the gun timer was taking too long to reload. I'd adjust the value if I were you. Either way, it's a wonderful implementation.

The music: It's a bit loud, and reminds me of Deus Ex in a way, although there is, sadly no music for the game, but rather in the main menu; however, it fit well for the storyline. You can include some music and set its volume to around 45% or so during actual gameplay, just so that the player won't be distracted, but no noise in itself is a distraction. Anyhow, the sound effects were good, except for maybe the sword slash one.

The storyline: I couldn't get past one point so I don't know the full storyline, but from what I read from the author description it seems nice, kinda like a Chibi Knight style game, except here it's a platformer all the time.

All in all, good. Deserves an 8 from me. Keep up the good work!

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Good music choice
2) Nice graphics
3) Good gameplay
4) Okay storyline
5) Good choice of sound effects

~~ Bad points ~~
1) No music in-game
2) Some sound effects didn't fit.

SimiyonkE responds:

Thanks for that deep review man, means a lot...

Kinda good

It's not an accurate depiction of 9/11, but hey, this game was made as a source of entertainment, who cares whether it shows what happened on September 11 with reference to this game? It's just the gameplay that counts.

The graphics: They were nice, I liked the style of the drawing of the missiles and the airplane, especially when it was tilted; it seemed realistic and smooth. The explosion wasn't good, but it wasn't drawn too bad either. All in all, good.

The gameplay: Fairly basic, use the WASD keys to move, the moving is rather smooth and I think that's what's making it tough: because you always hit a missile if you slide too much. However, I think that that's exactly what would happen to an airplane in air; it would slide because friction's not a lot. Anyways, the hitbox, for me, was only around a circle or so, since the missile touched the surface of the wings as I turned and nothing happened.

The medals: Eh, they're all secret, so I can't say what they are, but I'll give a hint: just play the game.

The music: Meh. It didn't fit very well and was a bit loud, but then again I guess you could say that that's an 'appropriate' choice of music in a situation like this.

Any things I didn't like? Sure, many. One: things would zoom by too fast, and the learning curve is too steep. One minute it's normal, the next it's zooming by fast. Two: The plane slid a little too fast, as if it were out of control. I don't know whether it was intentional or not. Third: Bad music.

I don't see why it deserved the "M" rating, because frankly, everything seems rated like T. Unless there's some part at the end that involves excessive graphic
violence or something; I couldn't get to the last part.

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Nice art
2) Smooth animation
3) Okay gameplay

~~ Bad points ~~
1) A tad hard (good? bad? you decide)
2) Loud-ish music
3) Didn't think it deserved M tag

Kevin responds:

Nice review!

The reason I kinda made it hard was just kinda a wink to old school NES/SNES games that were buttfuckingly hard and stuff... Even though this is nowhere near as hard. Also adds some cheap replay value (Hence the 23k views)

Music was just kinda thrown in last minute as a filler, I think it kinda fits in with the actiony sense... Also I'm a huge fan of Metal Gear Solid.

The M tag is mostly for the -mature- subject matter... Or lack there of.

Nice

This is a very nice remake of Minecraft in 2D, except that there's already one similar to this called "Terraria". However, since that's not based upon Minecraft, I'll not push this further; I'll focus on this flash.

The graphics: They're not half bad, and it's good in my opinion; however the character's design could be improved on, but apart from that, it's not that bad, it's acceptable.

The music/sound: There was no music, alas, and the sound effects were mediocre, but I can understand since it gives me the space to play other music while I'm playing this game.

The gameplay: It's similar to Terraria's, and that's nice, but there's a problem that may or may not be huge: the game lags like hell. I guess this could be due to all the thousands of collisions being detected throughout the game, but it simply lags on my 2GHz computer. And that can't be good.

But it's good for an attempt in flash, I'll give you that. I like the save and load feature; it can very much be a "poor man's minecraft" -- and this is not an insult -- I've favorited this so that I can play it when I'm bored, but please, please try to fix the lag. It brings the overall points I'd give for this game down, and I can just bet the other reviewers whining about it when they play it, since I can't see the reviews when this is under judgement.

~~ Summary ~~

~~ Good points ~~
1) Managed to pull off the 2D version in flash
2) Okay sound effects
3) Save/load feature
4) Okay graphics

~~ Bad points ~~
1) Lags, lags a lot
2) No music

Zanzlanz responds:

Thank you for the response.
But there is music (starting at 3% of every day).
And there is pretty much no way to get past the lag right now. You can decrease the quality, and remove monsters to reduce lag if you didn't yet.

---UPDATE---
Well I did fix most of the lag. Easiest fix is reloading the page, if you do get lag.

Nice

To be fair, this game was one that I liked mainly due to its simplicity. Even though you have a limited amount of what you can have (1 of each), the gameplay stays the same, although to be fair 10 coins to start off is small. Also, you can't get bankrupt by buying more than you have money for, you can include loans, or confirmations. Often I have clicked on those things accidentally and lost the game.

Nevertheless, it was captivating, atleast until I got a license. Way better than Go Farm 1, but still lacking in some points.

rhys510 responds:

wait for the third :D much better

Well...

I really liked this mid-years' awards, but the flash was a bit...hurried. Unlike last year where there were at least some minigames and medals, this...is just plain. I don't know whether this is good or not, but anyways, congrats to the winners!

P.S It took me a while to figure out the scrollbar thing.

thinking-man responds:

Yeah, it was rushed...

Could do better

The sounds were, for one, too loud, and the artwork was below bad; the instructions were not added and the only way you could play was by guessing that you had to click to shoot a bullet. That could be forgiven though; there was a "bug" that I found, which may not be a bug per se, but if you click any body part apart from the head, then the head will automatically be decapitated, even though you didn't "shoot" the head. Now, I don't know whether it was intentional or not, but that's generally not good. There was no music after a while; while I was writing this review the music abruptly stopped.

Summary:

~~ Good points ~~
» Somewhat okay music
» Not totally horrible

~~ Neutral points ~~
» Music stops after a while (i.e. it doesn't loop)

~~ Bad points ~~
» Bad artwork (Stickmen? Really?)
» Bullet sound was too loud
» No instructions

Not bad for a first attempt, but since I don't think it is your first attempt, a 1/5, 2/10 from me.

Rukichimo responds:

i want adding
Start Menu
More Music
Level Selecting
Music/Effect Buttons
and more
and i fix some bugs

Eh, nope

The angles at which the ball bounces is wonky -- it hits a perfectly vertical wall and it goes down, when the ball was not going down in the beginning! That's not supposed to happen.

The file size is another thing, 8.2MB for music can't be forgiven unless the music is wonderful, which IMO isn't.

It would have been a better game if it was made in flash, because it takes a lot of work to just code the ball bouncing and the removal of blocks with the angle of the ball after hitting an object, plus irregular shapes' collision checking would have been so complicated to run, but surprise SURPRISE! IT'S IN GAMES FACTORY! That just makes everything that looks hard to do in flash look easy, so that brings the expectations of the game higher.

Also, if the artwork was better then I'd have rated it a 1 or so, but that's not good either.

Summary:

Things to improve:
+ Music (I know you're saying you'll get the full version and use MIDI, but I don't know whether that'll work either)
+ Artwork (Looks like MSPaint drawn art)
+ Filesize (See Music)

Good points:
~ It was entertaining
~ A bit challenging

Bad points:
- Entertaining for about 5 minutes
- Ball often slips from "Molok"'s hand
- High file size
