Gimmick's News

Posted by Gimmick - August 30th, 2011

Gimmick: What brought you here, on Newgrounds?

Asandir: Well, I played Toss the Turtle on Newgrounds from time to time, by searching for online games around 2009, I stumbled across it again in December 2010 and simply wanted to keep the medals and also to earn alot more of them from other games. My first account ever on an internet site, and Asandir arrived. Although I would later start to use the forums regularly.

Gimmick: I noticed you have a rather large post count. I'd have the same, if I didn't quit, but I quit for a reason. What was your incentive to continue posting, and posting so fast at that?

Asandir: Well, as some might know, I only started to post actively in March 2011. I thought that I should make up for the days that I missed posting. That plan was succesful and now my pace is toned down a bit, but still pretty fast. I just like to post.

Gimmick: What would you consider your best achievement on NG?

Asandir: Well, that is a really good question. The first thing that came to mind is my Gold whistle, since it is not easy to get one, it takes alot of time and dedication.
Apart from that, I am very proud that people elected me as Rookie of the mid-year 2011.

Gimmick: Okay then, I've heard you got the trial version of flash. What do you plan to do with it?

Asandir: Well, I downloaded it on Clock Day 2011, so that I could pass through some badly made Clock Day submissions for fun. I have no further plans to use flash in any form, I am not interested in it.

Gimmick: Any regrets you have on NG, parts where you could've improved on, stuff like that?

Asandir: I highly regret my childish behaviour on the days after the Canas incident, where I left Newgrounds for around 3 hours( * add pre-taped laughter here) and made alot of people sad. Needless to say that it is even worse since the damage has been completely restored for everyone, besides Canas.

Gimmick: One last question: What do you use to create art, for example the sigs you created?

Asandir: Well, for the 3D art, I use the 3D program Sculptris, where you form some kind of 3D clay, pretty easy to use.
For the signatures, I use PhotoFiltre and most times fonts from flamintext.com. I used a Newgrounds wallpaper as base for my own signature, additionally.

Gimmick: Thanks for the interview. Any conclusions?

Asandir: Yes, I want to thank you :)

I'm now Legnus from Gimmick. Thanks a lot Wade! I'm happy with the username I have, it's pretty nice, and for those of you who didn't think so (compared to Gimmick), oh well, I can't please everyone.
EDIT: Never mind, got it changed back to Gimmick.

The perpetrator has finally gone, Canas has got his account back, but it seems that he was a victim of identity theft or something. He's demodded for now, but in the end, apart from the whistles, no damage was done. Still, that's no fault of him, so that should stop any whiners / haters, or at least inform them. Still, to all of those who have garbage whistles; post in the comments, I'll add you to the list, and whenever I find an abusive review, I'll pm you guys and flag it.

You can opt out whenever you want.

For those of you who didn't know, Canas's account has been hacked. This is a terrible tragedy, since it means many, many users who flagged abusive reviews just lowered their whistle points terribly, more so when they actively did it.

Not only that, but the hacker also had the tenacity to perma-ban everyone who recently wrote reviews, including me.
deckheadtottie has kindly offered to remove those tags under inspection of said reviews and ban notices; just PM him if you've been hit. I did, but then I found out I was permabanned again, by (wait for it) Canas's account controller. (Since I know the real operator of Canas wouldn't do such a thing)

Anyways, on to the victim list; if you've been hit, please report so in the comments, and I'll add you onto the list, depending on what grounds. Hopefully this will be proof enough for restoration in the late future.

UPDATE: ALL THE REVIEW BANS HAVE BEEN LIFTED, REPOST YOUR REVIEWS! The perpetrator has gone and the real canas is back! See the "moderator hacked?" thread in general for more info!

This is a list of people who were affected by the hacking of Canas's account; may be updated at will.

I'm a bit too late for this, but I realized clock day was over. This year was probably the only Clock Day I celebrated; it seems I was inactive for these two years, so in reality, my join date is only around 2010 or so, since I used all the features of NG only from 2010.

Nevertheless, I am still pretty happy about my 2008 tag, gives me a sense of (false?) achievement; back to topic, I submitted 2 clock day flash, and that's good enough for a person who does things on his own. I could've collaborated with people to get 11 more clock day flash, but no, I'm not cheap enough for that.

However, I've noticed something. Every day, the flash that I submitted for Clock Day is going down, probably due to the haters located around my userpage; I've seen collaboration flashes such as this increase their score every day. I don't know why, it seems like an inverted world, where the ones with effort go down in score and the ones with the least effort get high scores.

Seems like people just don't understand Clock Day's over, however I can't do anything about it, just rant and rave. Go on, 0 vote those two flash that I put effort into. I don't care.

This is a story I wrote for my english test (as a first language) in school, and I'm pleased to say I got a very pleasant score indeed, considering I was in the top (with another person in my class with the same mark).

/* Task: Write a story or an episode of suspense in which a character is facing a problem relating to time running out. */
---------------------------------
Opening my eyes, I looked around my surroundings. There was a lot of sand around my ankles and I could have sworn everything was a lot fatter than it should have been; I even saw some light from a nearby light source shine in my direction, only to be scattered everywhere.

"Have you woken up yet, sleepy-eyes? Good." boomed a deep voice from nowhere in particular. "There is sand falling from the top compartment of your glass cabin; when it runs out, the sprinklers atop the shelf near the lid will start, pouring water on you. You won't be able to swim away because the sand will contract, sticking to anything it touches -- in this case, your feet -- when it comes in contact with the water, effectively anchoring you to the bottom of the very hourglass trap I use for people like you."

"Wh-what did I do?" I stammered, almost falling asleep every now and then.
"Oh, you know what you did, Mark, if that's your real name!" shouted the voice, obviously exhibiting an obvious tinge of angriness in its voice, and continued, "You were an assasin! Your famous method of killing all those innocent" -- now it sounded as if it was next to crying out loud -- "people was by drowning them, of course! I'd like you to have a taste of your own medicine!" sobered up the voice, now recovering.

"By the way, did I tell you that your timer had already started ten minutes ago? You had only 50 minutes, and you've blown 1/5th that time.", cackled the voice, now getting entertained by this -- which meant he could see me.

That last comment frightened me awake -- I knew I had to get out of this trap, and quickly; it seemed that I had two options at hand which I thought up of while the voice jabbered away: i) Try jumping, catching hold of the middle constriction and use that to my advantage and hop out, fighting the pressure of the falling sand; or the safer but more idiotic option ii) where I try to stick to the walls of the hourglass and climb out, spider-man style.

Since it was more than obvious I couldn't do the second option, I decided to think up of more ideas and wait for the majority of the sand to fall to the bottom compartment; I blew about half of my original time, just thinking (to no avail) when I decided it was safe enough to execute the first, last and only good enough plan.

The sand pile had grown considerably while I was thinking, and it was up to my stomach -- I pushed away as much sand as I could into a pile, and stepped on it, using it as an impromptu platform to aid me with the jumping. I made sure to squint, lest the sand enter my eyes and foil my plan, and rub my hands with sand, so they wouldn't slip when grabbing the glass.

I jumped and reached out for the constriction, which I failed. Trying again and again, I jumped as high as I could each time, and went on long after I was tired, my main source of energy being adrenaline from the fear of death, panicking more each second, as time ran out.

I knew I was too late.

To tell you guys the truth, I was mainly inspired by the good ol' guys at the BBS, what with their create your own Saw traps thread. That was the main source of inspiration -- maybe even the plot -- that I got. I'm so lucky to be on Newgrounds, else I'd have not got this.

So...if you want me to create a short story, then request below. Just mention the topic and I'll stack then in a queue, first-come-first serve style.

Pending requests:
Bilalz - Related to a "kung fu rabbit"
Daethdrain - A nameless person who wakes up in purgatory
TokeCat (I heard he wanted his name changed like that, I'll call him that in advance) - A person who "builds his own house" and is basically aloof

Started pieces:
Daethdrain - Under way

Well.....I guess I'll be free this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so you can request things until the 24th of July, 2011!

It was raining, small droplets of water pouring down on my body. I tiptoed on my newly-bought leather shoes, trying to avoid adding any more noise to the already noise-drenched environment. I stooped low, fumbling for the key to the door under the ragged mat which held the only passage to my safe haven.
Reaching for the key, I struck something. It was most definitely not a key.

It was something slimy. Something wet and was pulling my hand in. I shrieked, attracting a small crowd of onlookers who seemed engaged by my shouts. I tried to jerk my arm, only to fail. I peeked under the mat...and it was an unidentified being.

Embarassed at the crowd which was ever-largening, I kicked the creature three times and it slid away...leaving a small bunch of round white dots -- which I presumed were eggs, which I later crushed so as to not have any more incidences like that -- and the key buried under them.

As I opened the door, imagine the horror as I noticed the whole room was filled with them.
